Speech Manuals

When a member first joins Toastmasters, that new member receives a new membership kit containing the Communication and Leadership Program manual, which is also refered to as the "basic manual."

Note: Included in the material sent with the basic manual are three other manuals: Your Speaking Voice, Effective Speech Evaluation, and Gestures: Your Body Speaks.

After completing the basic manual, members earn recognition as a Competent Communicator and are able to select manuals from the Advanced Communication and Leadership Program to further their speaking skills.

The Basic Manual

The Communication and Leadership Program manual is designed to give new members a strong start in developing a core set of skills for public speaking. Each of the ten projects in this basic manual asks each member to focus his/her attention on a certain aspect of speech making -- from organization to delivery. To learn more about the projects covered in the basic manuals, visit the Communication and Leadership Tracks pages.

The Advanced Manuals

Each of the manuals in the Advanced Communication and Leadership Program challenges Toastmasters to further improve their skills in a specific area of public speaking. Some manuals focus on "real life" situations such as public relations and technical briefings, while others help develop more widely applicable skills such as humor and storytelling. To learn more about the various topics discussed in each of the advanced manuals, visit the Advanced Communication Program page.
